December Dorkbot preparations

December 2008's Dorkbot Bristol meeting will be taking place at Hamilton House on Saturday 13th December from about midday until late afternoon.

Hamilton House is near to the corner of Stokes Croft with City Road, the entrance is at the rear of the building on City Road.

We haven't got the content fully confirmed yet and are still discussing this over at the Blabber list, but we hope that the day will be an open workshops day and that everyone will bring along something fun to play with.

Mike will be bringing his van and putting up a satellite dish in the car park for our net connection, so for those of you who haven't had a chance to see and play with this platform before, then this will be a good chance.

There is also quite a lot of old tech around the building, so we are considering a small session of "what the hell is that old bit of tech for?".

We will have some food and refreshments (juices, tea and coffee), and you'd be most welcome to bring your own from the many venerable (I'm thinking Rita's) establishments on Stokes Croft.

Logistics for event

  • keys and arrangement to get in: doors at 12PM on the day, we'll need to get in by 10AM at the latest. Amias is sorting out obtaining keys and access.
  • heating: amias investigating, we will have a cooking stove, but might need a space heater.
  • net conx / sat: to be provided via satellite, Mike will go there on Friday to do a survey / set-up and will arrive at 10AM to get the dish on-line. Van will be parked in car-park with dish either on roof of van or free-standing on tarmac.
  • clearing of room: some furniture to be moved, to be done on Friday 12th afternoon.
  • cooking equipment: amias to sort, Mike to provide gas stove and bottle.
  • food and drink: needs to be sorted
  • tables and chairs: need to be obtained from around the building, to do so Friday 12th and Sat 13th.
  • doors (stamps, money box)??: how shall we do this, we ought to have a printed out list of attendees and stamp them in for insurance and fire purposes.
